Ooooo, it's the month of witches and goblins and scarecrows and black cats. In the
Rainbow Scrap Challenge our color is blacks and greys. At first you might think that would be a dreary quilt color, but I've made some really cute black and white quilts over the years, as in these two. Both of these quilts are from scraps found in the Project Linus boxes of donated fabrics.

And here is the umbrella in black and grey. I was surprised at the amount of different blacks and greys I had in my scrap bin because it's not a color I would use naturally.
I agree that black and white are great colors for quilts, and your two examples are terrific. Also another lovely umbrella block.
